As David Suzuki stated in a Science Matter, article co-operation between nations to protect birds is effective. With proven success stories like the European Union Council Bird Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds, bird travel does not stop at the nearest border and conservation of bird populations is more effective over large geographical areas.
We know that birds regularly travel down the Sibley Peninsula across Lake Superior to the Keweenaw Peninsula and along the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota.
Bird watchers are encouraged to enter the birds they see into our online database. This database will also allow website visitors to conduct searches to see the birds that have been entered, where the birds were spotted and the date the birds were seen.
We encourage all residents of the Lake Superior Basin to take part in this fun and rewarding project. Make it part of your daily routine to list the birds you have seen! All you need to do is go to the Trout Lake Learning Center’s website www.tllc.ca and click on the bird logo on the front page to submit the bird you have seen. At the same time you will be able to view the birds your friends and neighbours around Lake Superior have added to the website.
The Trout Lake Learning Center’s mission as a non-profit corporation, is to protect, preserve and enhance the biodiversity and natural environment as well as to research, collect and disseminate information to the general public.
The success of our programs are dependant on the public’s support. The results of the Bird Survey will be discussed at a public meeting at the Trout Lake Learning Center on Saturday May 10, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.

| Musings on Pension Reform - Wednesday, June 24, 2009
THUNDER BAY, ON ----- June 24, 2009 ---- The draft from Queens Park has brought with it some musings about pension reform in Ontario. Years ago many companies tried to reduce costs by offering employees defined contribution pension plans. My personal opinion is such plans should be discouraged at all levels simply because many of them leave pensioners broke.
Part of the reason for this is there is no tax incentive for businesses to do otherwise. That should change. Instead Ontario’s minister of finance Hon. Dwight Duncan is likely to shuffle so things around that may help some situations for defined benefit plans. Having said that there are some prices we may have to be prepared to accept. read more ...
